US Iran Ceasefire
Trump said: “Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a non-nuclear deal. They better get smart soon!”
The two sides, with mediation from Pakistan, Egypt and Türkiye, have been working to narrow remaining differences in an effort to reach a deal before a ceasefire expires on 21 April.
In a phone call with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stressed the importance of building on the ceasefire announcement between Washington and Tehran to reinforce de-escalation efforts.
During a phone conversation with El-Sisi on Friday, Meloni said Hezbollah had made the wrong choices, while the Israeli response had exceeded the bounds of legitimate self-defense, a statement by the Presidency said.
El-Sisi called for building on the ceasefire agreement to preserve regional peace and stability and launching a serious negotiation process to resolve outstanding issues.
Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s sustained efforts to de-escalate tensions in coordination with regional partners, urging building on the ceasefire announcement as a key step toward advancing calm.
Abdelatty voiced Egypt’s unequivocal condemnation of the Israeli strikes, which have caused hundreds of casualties across multiple areas, and reaffirmed Cairo’s firm rejection of any violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
The announcement, made by the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf, came after a 40-day closure imposed by Israeli authorities which cited a “state of emergency” amid the US-Israeli war with Iran.
Lebanon’s Civil Defense Directorate reported casualties in Beirut and its southern suburbs (Dahieh); Baalbek and Hermel in the east; Nabatieh, Sidon, and Sour in the south; and Aley in Mount Lebanon.
Egypt intensifies diplomacy to support the U.S.–Iran ceasefire, working with regional partners to prevent wider Middle East escalation.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting in Kuwait with Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah on Wednesday, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.
The Egyptian foreign ministry condemned “acts of intrusion and vandalism” targeting the Kuwaiti consulate general in Iraq’s Basra, as well as strikes on infrastructure in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain.
