CAIRO – 10 April 2026: Egypt has urged concerted global efforts to ensure the success of the negotiations between the United States and Iran to consolidate the ceasefire, while calling for a halt to Israeli aggression on Lebanon.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty made the call during a phone conversation with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, on Friday, during which they discussed regional developments after the recent US-Iran ceasefire announcement.

Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s sustained efforts to de-escalate tensions in coordination with regional partners, urging building on the ceasefire announcement as a key step toward advancing calm.

He underscored the need to prioritize diplomatic channels and negotiations to contain the dangerous situation.

Abdelatty highlighted the importance of concerted regional and international efforts to ensure the success of negotiations aimed at consolidating the ceasefire and creating conditions conducive to an agreement to end the war.

Lebanon Attacks

The call also addressed developments in Lebanon.

Abdelatty condemned the Israeli aggression targeting wide areas of the country, affirming that such attacks violate international law and undermine regional and international efforts to achieve the desired regional de-escalation.

He reiterated the importance of respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and of halting all Israeli violations to safeguard regional stability and prevent further escalation into widespread chaos.

The two ministers affirmed that political and diplomatic solutions remain the only viable path to preventing the region from sliding into chaos.
