Egypt urges dialogue on postwar security arrangements to protect Arab states

KUWAIT – 8 April 2026: Egypt has called for launching a dialogue on postwar security arrangements to activate the concept of Arab national security, hours after a ceasefire was reached between the United States and Iran.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting in Kuwait with Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah on Wednesday, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.

Abdelatty said activating the concept of Arab national security aims to preserve the security and resources of Gulf and other Arab states and safeguard their sovereignty, stressing that Arab national security is indivisible.

Message from El-Sisi

The foreign minister delivered a message from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the Kuwaiti crown prince, reaffirming Egypt’s full solidarity with Kuwait during this critical period.

The message expressed Egypt’s complete support for Kuwait in the face of the attacks it has suffered, reflecting the spirit of brotherhood and longstanding ties between the two countries, the statement said.

 

Abdelatty also highlighted El-Sisi’s appreciation of the Kuwaiti emir’s measured and prudent approach, praising his restraint in responding to attacks and violations targeting Kuwait and other Gulf states.

For his part, the crown prince asked that his greetings and appreciation be conveyed to El-Sisi, commending Egypt’s supportive stance toward Kuwait.

He praised Egypt’s principled and consistent positions in backing the security and stability of Kuwait and the Arabian Gulf.

Sheikh Sabah also hailed Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting the national security of Kuwait, the Gulf, and other Arab states, describing it as a pillar of regional stability.

Unjustified Gulf Attacks

During the meeting, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s strong condemnation of the attacks on Kuwaiti territory, rejecting any justifications for what he emphasized as flagrant violations of international law and the UN Charter.

He stressed that the security of Kuwait and the Arabian Gulf is an extension of Egypt’s national security and affirmed Cairo’s full support for measures taken by Kuwait to protect its security and safeguard its people’s resources.

The foreign minister also condemned the storming and vandalism of the Kuwaiti Consulate General in Basra, Iraq, describing it as a blatant violation of the sanctity of diplomatic and consular missions.

Egypt-Kuwait De-escalation

Abdelatty emphasized the importance of continued coordination between Egypt and Kuwait to contain tensions, de-escalate the conflict, and end the war.

He stressed the need to prioritize diplomatic solutions and exercise restraint to prevent the region from sliding into widespread chaos.

 

The foreign minister also reviewed Egypt’s intensive efforts in recent weeks, in coordination with regional partners, to reduce tensions and reach understandings.

Abdelatty welcomed the announcement by US President Donald Trump of a two-week ceasefire, describing it as a significant positive step toward de-escalation.

He stressed that this opportunity must be seized to advance negotiations, diplomacy, and constructive dialogue to end the war.
