CAIRO – 8 April 2026: Egypt on Wednesday condemned recent attacks on vital Gulf facilities and expressed hope that the US–Iran ceasefire announced earlier in the day would halt all assaults on Gulf states.

In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry condemned “acts of intrusion and vandalism” targeting the Kuwaiti consulate general in Iraq’s Basra, as well as strikes on infrastructure in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain.

Egypt described the attack on the Kuwaiti consulate as a blatant violation of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular missions, affirming its full rejection of such acts, which contravene international law.

The ministry called for the protection and security of diplomatic and consular missions in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Cairo also denounced “heinous attacks” targeting energy facilities and infrastructure in Kuwait and the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia, as well as communication facilities in the UAE and civilian facilities in Qatar and Bahrain.

Egypt reiterated its full solidarity with the Gulf states and its support for their sovereignty, security, and stability.

The statement expressed hope that US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a two-week suspension of military operations would facilitate “a permanent halt to unjustified attacks on the Gulf states.”

It stressed that any future agreement to end the war must address the security concerns of Gulf states and ensure respect for their sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity, in line with international law and principles of good neighborliness.

Ongoing Attacks on the Gulf

Despite Trump’s announcement of a bilateral two-week ceasefire early Wednesday, Kuwait reported dozens of drones launched by Iran since 8 a.m., causing significant damage to oil infrastructure, power stations, and water desalination plants, according to the Kuwaiti Armed Forces.

Qatar reported that four people were injured by falling missile debris following Iranian projectile attacks on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, three people were injured in the UAE, including two Emiratis and one Indian, when debris from an air defense interception fell to the ground, according to reports on Wednesday.

Fires broke out at the Habshan gas complex, halting operations at the facility.

In Iraq, protesters attacked the Kuwaiti consulate in Basra following allegations, denied by the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry, that recent rocket attacks in southern Iraq originated from Kuwaiti territory.

Saudi Arabia also reported on Tuesday that it intercepted and destroyed seven ballistic missiles launched toward the Eastern Region, with debris landing near energy facilities.

Meanwhile, Iran also reported an “enemy attack” on its Lavan Island.

The National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company said the facility was hit at around 10 AM and that firefighting teams are working to contain the blaze.
