Egypt is set to connect the second phase of the Obelisk Solar Power Plant to the national grid within the coming weeks as part of plans to add new solar and wind energy capacity this summer
The meeting examined the implementation status of the second phase of projects aimed at strengthening the national electricity grid, which includes around 105 projects.
Egypt is considered one of the most favorable locations globally for solar power generation, enjoying some of the highest sunshine rates in the world. The country receives an annual average of approximately 2,900 to 3,750 hours of sunshine, equivalent to about 9 to 11 hours per day. These levels increase further south, particularly in Aswan and desert regions, where sunshine exceeds 4,000 hours annually, making them ideal for solar energy production, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
To be located in Qena Governorate, the Obelisk project involves the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of a large-scale solar plant integrated with energy storage
Construction of the 500-megawatt Kom Ombo solar power plant project in Egypt has been completed, Chinese Ambassador to Cairo Liao Liqiang announced Thursday.
