CAIRO - 19 January 2019: JW Marriott Cairo is proud to celebrate the launch of the first advanced solar-powered photovoltaic (PV) Modeling softwares, the Helioscope and PVSyst, that uses Solar power to convert the sun’s rays into electrical energy.

The project is contributed in cooperation with H.E. Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, H.E. Eng. Amr Nassar, Minister of Trade and Industry, H.E. Dr. Rania Al Mashat, Minister of Tourism, H.E. Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment and Mrs. Randa Aboul-Hosn, Country Director of United Nations Development Program.

The first project in Egypt to use a grant made available by the United Nations Development program with support from the Industrial Modernization Center and the Ministry of Trade & Investment. Worth mentioning that the first solar power station ever to be placed on the rooftop in Cairo hotels has been installed at the JW Marriott Cairo.

Mr. Mounir Ghabbour, Chairman of Mirage City Hotels Co. declared the implementation of this plant comes in the context of the hotel's support for the efforts of the State to diversify energy sources and expand the use of clean renewable energy technologies in the hotel sector in Egypt, in accordance with the concepts of green hotels and reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that cause changes in climatic conditions. The JW Marriot Cairo was the first hotel in Egypt to convert its lighting systems to LED energy-saving systems in 2014, which saved about 25% of the total electricity consumption of the hotel.

It is worth mentioning that the solar cell system project aims to support the spread of the use of small solar cells installed in residential and commercial buildings, public buildings, hotels and industrial facilities, which is a catalyst for the spread of the use of small solar plants connected to the network and develop the market for the production of solar cell systems and facilitate installation. In addition to establishing technical support and advisory centers, increasing the percentage of the local manufacturing component, preparing technical cadres and supporting the emerging markets of this technology in Egypt. This implementation will assist with new employment opportunities for youth, and remove barriers to increase energy generation by small solar cells, decentralized networks.
