Nabil Fahmy
Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman, Jordan, to discuss the latest developments regarding the Palestinian cause.
Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, held phone calls today with Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman; Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates; and Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Foreign Minister of the State of Kuwait, to discuss the fallout of the dangerous escalation in the region.
He succeeds Ahmed Aboul Gheit, whose term has ended.
The Foreign Minister is scheduled to participate in the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers, which will address various Arab and regional issues, said the Foreign Ministry in a statement on Monday.
Arab foreign ministers are scheduled to meet in Amman on Monday to formally endorse Fahmy’s appointment as the new Secretary-General of the League, after which he will officially assume office on July 1, 2026.
The recommendation was made during the Arab League Council’s 165th regular ministerial session, which focused largely on regional developments, particularly recent Iranian attacks on several Arab countries.
The United States’ recognition of al-Quds as the capital of Israel is a fatal blow to future peace negotiations.
