CAIRO – 22 June 2026: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdelatty traveled Monday, June 22, to the Jordanian capital, Amman, to participate in the 165th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level.
The Foreign Minister is scheduled to participate in the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers, which will address various Arab and regional issues, said the Foreign Ministry in a statement on Monday.
He will also hold a number of bilateral meetings with his Arab counterparts to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations, exchange views on the most prominent regional and international developments, and explore avenues for supporting joint Arab action.
Arab foreign ministers are scheduled to meet in Amman on Monday to formally endorse the Egyptian nominee Nabil Fahmy’s appointment as the new Secretary-General of the League, after which he will officially assume office on July 1, 2026.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s full support for the nomination of Nabil Fahmy as Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS).
During his meeting with Fahmy, President El-Sisi stressed that the region is facing unprecedented challenges that require strengthening joint Arab action and enhancing the role of the League of Arab States as the primary framework for defending the interests of Arab countries and peoples.
For his part, Fahmy expressed his appreciation for the President’s support and affirmed his commitment to developing the League’s performance and formulating a more effective strategic vision that reflects the magnitude of the challenges facing Arab national security. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the League’s role in the economic and social spheres to help achieve its broader objectives.
