LONDON – 20 May 2026: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said Israel “will not enjoy sustainable peace and stability” while denying Palestinians their legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Asked by CNN host Christiane Amanpour about Israeli statements rejecting Palestinian statehood and threatening broader military action in the region, Abdelatty said “I can assure you it will not bring peace and stability and security for Israel.”

Abdelatty stressed that there can be no peace and stability in the region without addressing the hard core of its conflict, which is the Palestinian cause.

“Without giving the Palestinian their own legitimate rights, including the right of self-determination, I can assure you that Israel will not enjoy sustainable peace and stability because this is the core of the conflict.”

“We have to give back the legitimate rights to the people in Gaza and the West Bank, to have their own independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

“A part of that, there is no peace and stability in the region.”

He added that “mighty power will not bring full security and stability.”
