The remarks came during a meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in the French city of Évian, according to the Egyptian Presidency.

Egypt affirmed its support to Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza, stressing that the country will spare no effort to ensure full implementation of the second phase.
The Rafah crossing has reopened on a “trial basis,” Tel Aviv said on Sunday, after Israeli forces has largely blocked this vital gateway since May 2024, depriving scores of Gazans wounded during the Israeli war to leave for treatment.
The crossing is expected to reopen in the coming days to allow the movement of Palestinians into and out of Gaza after months of Israeli blockade during a deadly war that pushed the enclave toward famine.
Egypt announced its approval to participate and committed to completing the necessary legal and constitutional procedures.
President Donald Trump and his aides raised the crossing issue as they hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the US on Monday.
Rubio underlined plans to form the so-called “Board of Peace (BoP),” headed by Trump and other notable global figures, to administer Gaza alongside a group of Palestinian technocrats, in line with the plan, Bloomberg reported.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa highlighted the plan as a framework for achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
In a statement by the foreign ministry, Egypt affirmed its commitment to working with regional and international partners to ensure the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s plan.
Recovering the bodies of captives taken by Hamas during the October 7, 2023 attacks is a key component of the ceasefire agreement that came into effect earlier this month, mediated by Egypt, the United States, Qatar, and Turkey.
Egypt has also intensified contacts with the United States to ensure the Gaza ceasefire holds and to promote a just and lasting peace in the region.
“Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will travel to Egypt later today to finalize the technical details of the hostage release and discuss the lasting peace deal,” media quoted a White House official as saying.
