“Egypt has not been, and will never be, a gateway to liquidating the Palestinian cause,” Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty told the 80th session of the UNGA, reaffirming Cairo’s unwavering support for “the steadfastness of the proud Palestinian people, firmly attached to their national soil.”
Abdelatty stressed the urgent need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, which would help de-escalate the situation and ensure the sustained and sufficient delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza. He reiterated that a just and comprehensive peace can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, stating this as the only viable path to long-term regional security and stability.
The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Egypt’s consistent position in support of Sudan’s security, stability, unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He stressed the importance of maintaining and supporting Sudan’s national institutions and emphasized Egypt’s keenness to engage positively with various efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Sudan and alleviating the humanitarian suffering of the brotherly Sudanese people.
Madbouly, on behalf of President El-Sisi, attended the multilateral summit grouping the leaders of the United States and eight Arab States as well as members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the United Nations headquarters on the margins of the High-Level Week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In a statement, President Sisi added: “The recognition and realization of an independent Palestinian state is not a dream. It is, rather, a commitment to a right for which the Palestinian people have long struggled and which has been supported by all peace-loving peoples of the world. It is the sole way to achieve lasting peace, security, and cooperation among all peoples of the region,”
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty headed on Sunday to New York to participate in the High-level Meetings of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 80).
