VIDEO: Egypt, Qatar urge resumption of US-Iran talks, transition to Gaza ceasefire's second phase

CAIRO – 25 July 2026: Egypt and Qatar on Saturday called for the resumption of negotiations between the United States and Iran, urging regional efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and return to diplomacy.

The call came during a meeting in Doha between Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

The two ministers stressed the importance of reducing regional tensions and continuing efforts by regional parties to contain the crisis.

They underscored the need for these efforts to lead to de-escalation, resumption of negotiations, and adherence to the commitments of the memorandum of understanding signed between Washington and Tehran in mid-June.

They also agreed to continue consultations and coordination until de-escalation efforts succeed.

Moreover, the ministers discussed developments in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

They stressed the importance of implementing all commitments under the first phase of US President Donald Trump's Gaza ceasefire plan and transitioning to its second phase.

The meeting was held as part of ongoing consultations and coordination between Egypt and Qatar.

The two ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across various sectors, particularly trade and economic ties, and exploring new investment opportunities.
