CAIRO – 18 July 2026: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held separate phone calls on Friday with U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi to discuss the latest regional developments and ongoing efforts to ease tensions.

 

According to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelatty and Witkoff exchanged views on the latest developments in the Middle East amid escalating military tensions, as part of ongoing consultation and coordination between Egypt and the United States.

 

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for all efforts to resolve the current crisis through dialogue and diplomacy. He welcomed the progress achieved through the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, stressing the importance of adhering to its provisions and describing it as a constructive step toward reducing tensions and promoting regional security and stability.

 

In his separate call with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the two ministers discussed the rapidly escalating tensions in the region and the serious risks they pose to regional peace and stability, as well as ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation and return to negotiations.

 

The two ministers stressed the need to contain tensions and prevent the region from sliding into a broader conflict. They also underscored the importance of resuming negotiations and pursuing political solutions as the most effective way to address the current crises.

 

The ministers agreed to maintain close coordination and consultation in the coming period to support regional de-escalation efforts and enhance security and stability across the region.
