In his separate call with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the two ministers discussed the rapidly escalating tensions in the region and the serious risks they pose to regional peace and stability, as well as ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation and return to negotiations.
The visit aims to follow up on the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, which came into effect last Friday.
President El-Sisi emphasized that Egypt looks forward to continuing cooperation with the United States to implement the agreement based on President Trump’s plan, which will be signed. The President reiterated Egypt's commitment to working closely with the United States to further their partnership in the Middle East peace process that Egypt initiated and the United States has sponsored since the 1970s.
Since the outbreak of the war between Iran and Israel on June 13, Egypt has exerted tremendous diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict in which hundreds of people were killed and thousands were injured.
Egypt and Qatar are continuing their efforts to resolve the points of contention in the way of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza based on the proposal of U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, allowing the resumption of indirect negotiations.
According to a statement released by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the call addressed the joint efforts of mediation by Egypt, the United States, and Qatar to release the Israeli captives, achieve calm and de-escalation, and consolidate and implement the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
