CAIRO – 17 October 2025: U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is set to begin a tour of the Middle East on Sunday, with planned stops in Egypt and Israel, and a likely visit to the Gaza Strip, Axios reported, citing U.S. officials.

The visit aims to follow up on the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, which came into effect last Friday.

According to officials, the tour seeks to strengthen coordination between Washington, Cairo, and Tel Aviv, and to reaffirm the parties’ commitment to the terms of the agreement, as the United States works to consolidate the ceasefire and promote stability on the ground.

Last Monday, Witkoff accompanied U.S. President Donald Trump during his visit to Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh, where President Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi signed a comprehensive document aimed at ending the war in Gaza.

The agreement — known as the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement to End the War in Gaza — was announced on October 9, 2025. It aims to halt the conflict, establish a framework for peace, and initiate efforts toward regional reconstruction and political stabilization.
