EVIAN – 17 June 2026: US President Donald Trump praised Egypt’s pivotal role and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s personal efforts in supporting negotiations and de-escalation in the Middle East, the Egyptian presidency said on Wednesday.
The remarks came during talks between the two leaders on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in the French city of Évian, where discussions also touched on broader regional developments.
El-Sisi congratulated Trump on the success of efforts to reach an agreement with Iran, stressing the importance of the deal paving the way toward ending the war and achieving de-escalation in the Middle East.
El-Sisi also said Egypt is prepared to exert all efforts, in coordination with regional and international partners, to support such initiatives and help reach sustainable solutions to outstanding regional issues.
Trump, in turn, voiced his keenness for continued close coordination between Cairo and Washington to support regional peace and stability.
Their talks come as diplomatic efforts continue to build on a recently announced agreement between the US and Iran aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East and restoring normal global shipping flows disrupted by the war.
Egypt has welcomed the announcement, saying it has continued in recent months, under presidential directives, its sustained efforts with regional and international partners to reach this point, end the war, and strengthen regional security and stability.
