FLORIDA – 7 June 2026: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Sunday that its forces shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones that it said were threatening maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

The incident strains the fragile US-Iran ceasefire that has largely curbed hostilities started by the US and Israel against the Persian nation on February 28.

The Strait of Hormuz, which links the Persian Gulf to global shipping routes, is one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints and a key artery for global energy supplies.

CENTCOM said American forces remain “postured and ready” to continue defending against what it described as Iranian aggression.

The downing came a day after a fresh exchange of strikes between the United States and Iran.

The US military reported on Saturday that it downed four Iranian attack drones and that Iran launched seven missiles toward Bahrain and Kuwait.

According to CENTCOM, six of the missiles were intercepted while the seventh failed to reach its target.

The US also said it struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island.

US President Donald Trump said ongoing negotiations with Iran are progressing positively, expressing optimism that the two sides could achieve tangible results in the coming days.
