CAIRO – 19 April 2026: The Egyptian and Kuwaiti foreign ministers held political consultations in Cairo on Sunday, discussing bilateral relations, as well as regional escalation, global developments, and Gulf security.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, reviewed developments in the US-Iran talks and efforts aimed at halting escalation and ending the war.

Their discussions come as the United States and Iran have held high-level talks in recent days in a bid to bridge differences and reach a deal to end the war that began on February 28.

The war, currently paused by a two-week ceasefire set to expire on Tuesday, has fueled regional escalation through retaliatory Iranian strikes, undermined stability in the Middle East, and driven global energy prices sharply higher.

During the meeting, Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s condemnation of any attacks targeting Kuwait’s security and stability, as well as any attempts to undermine its sovereignty.

He underscored Egypt’s full support for measures taken by Kuwait to safeguard its security.

Abdelatty affirmed that Kuwait’s security is an integral part of Egypt’s own security and highlighted the importance of taking into account the security concerns of Gulf states in any future regional arrangements.

For his part, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah expressed full appreciation for Egypt’s support for Kuwait, praising Cairo’s pivotal role in promoting regional security and stability, de-escalating tensions, and strengthening Arab solidarity.
