Egypt hopes US-Iran talks secure deal to end war: FM

CAIRO – 17 April 2026: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s support to the path of negotiations between the United States and Iran during talks with several countries on Friday.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held meetings with the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Bolivia, Azerbaijan, Syria, Rwanda, Comoros, and Portugal, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

Abdelatty also met with US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos and High Representative for the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNOAC) Miguel Ángel Moratinos.

Abdelatty expressed hope that the US-Iran talks would lead to an agreement that brings an end to the war.

Their talks come amid clear signs of US-Iran de-escalation.

Tehran on Friday announced the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the vital oil supply passageway, after weeks of near closure.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said talks with Iran are expected this weekend and could lead to a deal “soon.”
