Iran has largely restricted shipping through the strategic waterway since the outbreak of war with the United States and Israel on February 28, despite a fragile ceasefire in place since April 8.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf, the call focused on assessing the progress of the talks, reviewing proposals put forward by the parties involved, and exploring pathways toward a mutually acceptable agreement.

Abdelatty was briefed on the latest developments regarding the Omani-brokered negotiations between the US and Iran, said the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
In a joint press conference with his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who is paying Egypt an official visit, President Sisi added that the initiative also suggested to resume the talks following the two-day truce for more 10 days to reach a comprehensive ceasefire.
The meeting took up means of enhancing the comprehensive strategic partnership between Cairo and the pan-European body, Khallaf wrote on X platform.
“We hope that there will be a consensus among the Sudanese political and national forces participating in the conference, in order to end the war and hostilities,” he continued.
Cairo has hosted several rounds of negotiations between the concerned parties, with the aim to reach a humanitarian truce between the Palestinian Hamas movement and Israel in Gaza.
The talks will be participated by Egyptian, Qatari and US mediators, with Hamas representatives and aim to tackle the outcomes of the Paris meeting on reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a prisoner swap between the Palestinians and the Israelis, ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, which is expected to begin on Monday.
The movement's delegation held several high-level meetings to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip, putting an end to the Israeli brutal aggression against the Palestinian people, the return of displaced persons to their homes, relief and shelter, especially in the northern Gaza Strip, and ways to achieve these demands.
He added that Hamas leadership seeks with all forces to stop the aggression and massacres against the Palestinians completely not temporarily.
The UN Security Council praised the role played by Egypt in facilitating the talks in Cairo between the Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State.
The talks will take up ways of boosting joint relations between the two countries in several domains and international and regional issues of mutual concern.
Biden also stressed that he had talks with the Saudi leadership on Riyadh's security needs and supporting it to face any threats, especially the Iranian threat.
On April 13, 2022, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with US Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley during the former’s official visit to Washington. During the meeting, Shoukry and Malley discussed the situations in the Middle East region, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
