CAIRO - 5 November 2020: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will receive Special Envoy of the UN secretary-general for Syria Geir Pedersen on Thursday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters towndown Cairo, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

 

Pederson visited Damascus, on October 25, 2020,to discuss ways to resume talks on amending the Syrian constitution this month in Geneva, according to a statement from the UN on October 27.

 

On October 4, 2020, Shoukry received a phone call from Pedersen, discussing the latest developments in Syria. They discussed ways to advance the political settlement of the Syrian crisis as the Egyptian Minister stressed Egypt's supportive stance towards finding a solution to the Syrian crisis in a way that preserves the Syrian unity and its independence, in light of Egypt’s communicative efforts with the “moderate” Syrian opposition.

 

Shoukry also reiterated Egypt’s call for confronting terrorist and extremist organizations and their regional supporters, the statement continued.
