JOHANNESBURG – 23 November 2025: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s unwavering efforts to consolidate Sharm El-Sheikh agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting on Sunday with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on the sidelines of the G20 meetings in South Africa’s Johannesburg city.

He underlined Egypt’s commitment to cooperating with the United States and other partners to move forward with implementing the second phase of the agreement.

This should pave the way for a sustainable resolution to the Palestinian cause on the basis of the two-state solution, Abdelatty stressed.

He praised Canada’s recognition of the State of Palestine last September.

As Egypt prepares to host the Gaza Early Recovery and Reconstruction Conference, Abdelatty renewed his invitation for the Canadian foreign minister to participate.

Egypt and many global and regional partners are pushing to advance the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan, which seeks to halt Israeli hostilities, secure the delivery of aid to famine-stricken civilians, and outline a post-war governance framework.

The plan’s first phase, implemented since October 10, included a ceasefire and a prisoner-exchange agreement between Israel and Hamas.

Meanwhile, the second phase provides for the deployment of a temporary multinational force across the enclave to carry out several tasks, including demilitarizing the territory.

The coming phase also envisions establishing a so-called Board of Peace, chaired by Trump and comprising figures such as former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, to oversee a technocratic Palestinian administration in Gaza.
