CAIRO – 31 August 2025: Israeli forces killed 88 Palestinians and injured 421 others in Gaza over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll from the 22-month war to 63,459, with over 160,000 people injured, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
Israel kills dozens of Palestinians every day in Gaza and has started the “initial” stage of conquering Gaza City, home to hundreds of thousands of people, and reoccupy the entire enclave.
On Saturday, an Israeli strike targeted a populated building in Gaza City, leaving dozens of casualties, according to Hamas. The target of the attack is believed to be the iconic spokesman of Hamas’ military wing Abu Obaida.
His death has not yet been confirmed.
“We still don’t know the final result,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday.
He stated that the operation was carried out by the Israeli army in cooperation with the Shin Bet domestic intelligence service.
Israel is proceeding with its operation to take over Gaza City and forcibly evacuate its nearly one million residents despite global concerns over the deepening humanitarian crisis throughout the enclave, which has amounted to famine.
A report published last week by the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) officially confirmed famine in Gaza City and surrounding areas for the first time.
The analysis found that over half a million people in Gaza are currently trapped in famine conditions, and projected that by the end of September, famine will spread across the enclave.
It further warned that by June 2026, more than 100,000 children under the age of five will be at risk of death due to acute malnutrition.
Israel has dismissed the IPC report, with Netanyahu calling it an “outright lie.”
In the past 24 hours alone, seven additional people died from famine and malnutrition, bringing the total number of such deaths to 339, including 124 children, according to the health ministry.
