The US administration is planning a 5,000-person military base for the multi-national International Stabilization Force (ISF) set to be deployed in Gaza, The Guardian reported after reviewing relevant contracting records.
Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates stepped up diplomatic coordination on Saturday ahead of this week’s high‑level meeting of the Gaza Board of Peace (BoP) in Washington.
Badr Abdelatty made the remarks during a panel at the Doha Forum alongside the foreign ministers of Spain and Norway and a senior Saudi foreign ministry official.
Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s position on regional crises, placing the Palestinian cause at the forefront.
“The security arrangements must be characterized by a temporary and transitional nature, in preparation for enabling the Palestinian Authority to exercise all governance and security functions, in accordance with the principle of geographic contiguity between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip."
Egypt's FM Badr Abdelatty stressed the need to implement the latest UN Security Council resolution on Gaza.
In an interview with Turkey’s Habertürk TV during his visit to Ankara- later published by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry- Abdelatty said the potential force should also provide training and capacity-building for Palestinian police to manage civilians’ daily needs, as well as possibly help secure borders and crossings.
Egypt’s Public Prosecution received, Thursday a message from The International Criminal Police Organization, (Interpol), stating that three Egyptian fugitive who are accused of raping a girl in 2014, in the notorious case known as “Fairmont Case,” were arrested and deported to Cairo from Lebanese Capital Beirut.
