According to an official report, the total number of livestock vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease has reached 3,135,575 animals, while 2,705,225 animals have been vaccinated against Rift Valley fever.
A maximum state of readiness has been implemented at 497 government slaughterhouses across the country to ensure their technical and veterinary preparedness for receiving sacrificial animals, in coordination with executive authorities in the governorates.
According to the Ministry, the total number of vaccinated animals has reached approximately 2,161,667 head across the country. This includes 1,467,519 head of cattle vaccinated against lumpy skin disease, and 694,148 sheep and goats vaccinated against sheep pox.
The spokesperson revealed that the current heightened measures are due to the emergence of a new viral strain of foot-and-mouth disease, known as “SAT-1,” which has appeared in several neighboring countries, including Libya, Sudan, and some Gulf states, during the past month of May. In response, the Ministry has taken proactive steps by intensifying vaccination campaigns to protect Egypt’s livestock from the new strain.
As part of broader efforts to protect livestock and curb the spread of epidemics, more than 5,000 awareness seminars have also been held to educate breeders on the vaccination schedule and its economic and preventive significance.
The Ministry is overseeing its design and financing under a contract with a general contracting and commercial investment company to supply two fully equipped, air-conditioned mobile slaughterhouses.
