Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli reviewed on Thursday a new program that aims at achieving a “substantial increase” in Egyptian exports as one of the most important sources of foreign currency.
Egypt’s exports rose by 20 percent in 2022 to reach $53.8 billion, up from $45 billion in the previous year, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said on Wednesday, citing preliminary data.
A report by Ahmed El-Attar, head of the ministry’s Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine, has affirmed that the most prominent Egyptian agricultural exports this year are citrus fruits, potatoes, onions, grapes, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, strawberry, beans, guavas, mangoes, garlic, and watermelons.
Egypt’s exports to the European Union (EU) ranked first among these blocs as they rose by 85.9 percent from $7.8 billion in 2020 to $14.6 billion in 2021, the country’s statistical agency said.
The Chemical and Fertilizers Export Council said the sector's exports hit $2.875 billion during the period from January to July 2020, compared to $3.372 billion recorded during the same period in 2019, with a 15% decline.
Egyptian exports skyrocketed to hit $ 14.3 billion within the last 6 months of the current fiscal year 2018/2019.
Exports of engineering and electronic commodities increased by 10 percent from January to November 2017.
GOEIC’s monthly report revealed that exports increased month-on-month (m-o-m) to reach $1.805 billion in November 2017 vs. $1.785 billion in November 2016.
