The Egyptian Presidency underscored the “critical importance” of the agreement signed by Trump and Pezeshkian in reducing tensions, preventing further escalation and restoring security and stability across the Middle East.
The memorandum provides for the "immediate and permanent termination of military operations" on all fronts, including in Lebanon, and outlines a framework for addressing Iran's nuclear program, reopening shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and lifting sanctions on Tehran.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday.
“I personally apologize to the neighboring countries that were attacked by Iran. We do not intend to attack neighboring states, and as I have repeatedly said, they are our brothers,” the Iranian president said.
“The Islamic Republic considers avenging the perpetrators of this historic crime, and those who issued the orders to carry it out, both a duty and a legitimate right, and will pursue this responsibility with full force,” Pezeshkian said, according to Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim.
The call comes amid mounting tensions between Iran and the US, after US President Donald Trump reiterated threats to strike Iran unless it agrees to negotiate a new nuclear deal, while Tehran has warned it would retaliate against any attack.
The president reaffirmed Egypt’s continued efforts to help bring the United States and Iran back to the negotiating table, with the aim of reaching a comprehensive and peaceful settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue that would bolster regional and international stability.
El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s deep concern over rising regional tensions, emphasizing that diplomatic efforts remain the only viable and effective path to resolving the crisis, in a way that spares the Middle East further instability and unrest.

According to sources, Israel executed a botched assassination attempt against Pezeshkian, along with other top leaders and several senior state officials, amid its recent strikes against Iran.
Sisi welcomed the announcement of the ceasefire agreement, stressing the importance of solidifying and adhering to this agreement, especially given the regional escalation that almost plunged the area into chaos and widespread violence.
