The Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement that the move represents a blatant violation of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, and a direct infringement on the legal and historical status of Jerusalem.
Speaking at an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers in Jeddah, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia.
The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Monday afternoon after Israel’s unilateral recognition of the Somali breakaway region of Somaliland.
The statement included the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and a cross-regional group of countries: Egypt, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Türkiye, and Yemen.

The successive recognitions of the Palestinian state that we have recently witnessed represent an unprecedented victory for the cause since its inception.
"Today, to revive the hope of peace and a two-state solution, I state clearly - as prime minister of this great country - that the United Kingdom formally recognises the state of Palestine," Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced in a video statement, according to BBC.
They emphasized the conference as “a pivotal step” toward international recognition of the State of Palestine in line with the two-state solution, establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Egypt praised Portugal’s decision to recognize the state of Palestine during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as "a historic step."
“This historic and important step supports Palestinian rights and the Palestinian people’s exercise of their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state, contiguous on the June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.
Egypt invited all countries that have yet to recognize the State of Palestine “to expedite this important step, aligning themselves on the right side of history.”
