Farouk revealed that intensive efforts are underway to reclaim more than 3.5 million additional feddans, primarily through major national projects in the New Delta region, which he described as a new agricultural lifeline for the country, as well as in Toshka, aimed at revitalizing agriculture in southern Egypt, and in Sinai Peninsula as part of the state’s comprehensive development plan for the region.
The New Delta project, part of the “Future of Egypt” Authority for Sustainable Development, is one of several national initiatives aimed at reclaiming more than 4.5 million feddans, Bahaa El-Ghannam, the authority’s chief, said during the inauguration.
The newly-appointed minister of irrigation and water resources, Hani Sweilam, held Monday a meeting with senior officials at the ministry to discuss under-progress and future plans.
The Egyptian government is keen to increase the cultivation of strategic crops, said Minister of Agriculture El Sayyed Al Qusseir.
The experience took place in New Valley's Sharq Al Owaynat.
