Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola refuses to surrender in the competition for the English Premier League title, but hinted that their rival Liverpool is close to the title.

City fell at home and among their fans against neighbor Manchester United with 1-2 in round 16 of the Premier League, to expand the difference with leaders Liverpool to 14 points.

"We have to keep on chasing, if we are not able to catch up with Liverpool, we will try next season," Pep said in statements highlighted by his club's website.

"Sometimes you don't win and the other teams are better, you just should not give up."

"If things don't go well, maybe next season we will be better," added the Spanish coach.

On the United match, Guardiola explained, "I love the way my team plays, even though we suffered a little against Manchester United unlike previous years."

"We wasted some opportunities, we lost the balls, but in general we did what needs to be done," he continued.

"We must try to reduce the amount of counter-attacks that we have received, we must press more," he said.

The Red Devils wrote a tough victory for coach Ole Gunnar Solskajer men, while Pep Guardiola's hopes of keeping his nickname from fading away.

United goal scorers Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, and reduced the difference for City through the defender Nicholas Otamendi.

City remained in third place, taking advantage of the loss of Chelsea, standing at 32 points, 14 points behind leaders Liverpool.

As for United, they became in the fifth place, surpassing Tottenham with 24 points, 5 points behind the Blues who finished fourth.
