Bayern Munich have officially sacked coach Niko Kovac after a 5-1 defeat by Eintracht Frankfurt.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the club's chief executive, said: "Bayern have seemed inexperienced in the past weeks and the results have shown us the need to make a decision on the technical staff."

"We therefore announce to you after the meeting with club president Uli Hoeness and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic that Nico Kovac is no longer coach of Bayern."

"I would like to thank Nico Kovac on behalf of Bayern for his work with us, especially as he led the team to win the league and cup double last season."

"Assistant coach Hans Flick will temporarily take over the first team during the two Champions League games against Olympiakos and Borussia Dortmund," Rummenigge said.

"I expect a positive development from our players in the coming period and a stronger appearance to achieve the goals of the club this season," said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.

"I think this is the right decision for Bayern right now, the results of the team and the way we played in the last game made me convinced of that decision," said Nico Kovac after his dismissal from Bayern.

"I thank Bayern for the time I spent with them and I wish the new club and technical staff all the best," he said.
