CAIRO – 5 August 2017 – Bayern Munich won the 6th German Super Cup title in its history after defeating Borussia Dortmund with the penalty kicks (5-4) at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday.

German Bundesliga champion club Bayern Munich managed to add another German Super Cup title to its history, making it the sixth title the club has won, while Dortmund’s remains with five titles.

The two teams tied with two goals each in the original time of the game, which made them go to penalty kicks.

Christian Pulisic started the scoring for Dortmund at the 12th minute of the game after a wrong pass from Bayern Munich defender Javier Martinez. Then, Robert Lewandowski scored the equalizing goal for Bayern Munich in the 18th minute of the game to finish the first half with the draw. Gabonese striker Pierre-Emrick Aubameyang put Dortmund in the lead again after scoring in the 71st minute of the game, but Bayern Munich players, insisting on winning the title, managed to push Dortmund’s defense after a crossed ball was lost in the box, resulting in Roman Buerki scoring in his own net by mistake in the 88th minute, ending the second half 2-2, which brought them to the penalty shootouts.

Bayern won after six penalties were shot for each team, as Sebastian Rode and Marc Bartra missed two of Dortmund’s penalties, while only Joshua Kimmich missed for Bayern.
