Ramadan is a time for reflection, spirituality, and family gatherings, it’s the month we all love and long for. However, with long fasting hours followed by indulgent iftars full of your favorite food, weight gain can be a common concern amongst many. While it's tempting to enjoy traditional dishes, making mindful choices can help you stay healthy without missing out on the joy of the season. Here are some tips to help you maintain your weight during Ramadan.

1. Start with Protein and Fiber at Iftar
Instead of breaking your fast with heavy fried foods and carbs, start with two cups of water, dates(optional) and your favourite soup followed by protein and fiber-rich foods. This keeps you full longer and prevents overeating.

2. Hydrate Smartly
Dehydration can trick your body into feeling hungry. Avoid breaking your fast with sugary drinks, and instead, opt for water, detox water, or herbal teas. Try to drink at least 8–10 glasses of water between Iftar and Suhoor to stay hydrated and prevent unnecessary snacking.

3. Be Mindful of Sugary Foods
We know how tempting Kunafa and Atayef can be, but as much as Ramadan desserts are mouth-watering, they're also calorie-dense. That doesn't mean you should eliminate them completely, you can control your portion sizes, and have you favorite dessert two days in a week instead of overeating.

4. Stay Active
Whether its before or after iftar, a 30-minute walk is great to keep your body moving and will help you maintain your weight. If you prefer strength training or cardio, schedule it 1–2 hours after Iftar when your body is fueled.

5. Plan a Balanced Suhoor
If you think skipping Suhoor is a good idea, you’re wrong. Skipping it will lead to overeating in iftar, so make sure you have a well-balanced meal full of protein and fibers to avoid feeling sluggish the next day.

6. Listen to Your Body
Instead of eating out of habit, practice mindful eating. Eat slowly, chew properly, and stop when you feel satisfied, not overly full. This helps prevent unnecessary calorie intake and allows your body to digest food properly.
