CAIRO - 4 July 2017: The Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) in UAE has declared on Tuesday five winners of a photography competition that was held in June.

The winners were Sameera Ahmed Sulais from Saudi Arabia, Mansour Mohsen from Yemen, Arief Adhari from Indonesia, Kazi Hossain from Bangladesh, and Erpanizal from Indonesia.

HIPA is expected to deliver the ‘HIPA Recognition Awards’ to the winners in the upcoming days. The contesters were able to participate in the competition by sending their works to HIPA through using hashtag #HIPAContest_ Ramadan, according to a released statement by the organization.

Ali bin Thalith the Secretary General of HIPA mentioned in the statement that Ramadan was a special month where the photographers were able to document the moments when Muslims start fasting and break their fast during Maghreb prayers through the lenses of their camera.

The captured photos were suitable for Ramadan’s Instagram photo contest according to Thalith. One of the winners, Sulais captured her photo in during a Quran teaching lesson in India that depicted spirituality. Another winner, Yemeni photographer Mohsen captured his winning photo during Umrah pilgrimage in the holy city of Mecca that caught worshippers reaching for the Ka’ba, an Islamic site.

HIPA competition is held monthly through Instagram as the Instagram Photo Contest for July will be themed ‘Macro Photography’, the statement added.
