CAIRO - 16 June 2026: Egyptian agricultural exports have achieved a significant leap in global markets since the beginning of this year, with exports of fresh onions exceeding 85,000 tons.
This reinforces its strategic position among Egypt's most important export crops, which enjoy increasing international demand.
Agricultural exports surpass 5M tons in total
According to the latest official report issued by the Agricultural Quarantine Authority, this outstanding performance of fresh onions is part of a comprehensive export system that has successfully pushed total Egyptian agricultural exports beyond 5 million tons in this short period.
Experts explained that this growth is due to the country's success in opening new global markets and implementing strict quarantine requirements that guarantee product quality and safety.
Egyptian onions and garlic have recently managed to penetrate promising markets with stringent standards in Asia and Latin America, such as Vietnam, Uzbekistan, and Uruguay.
These figures reflect the growing confidence of foreign consumers in Egypt’s monitoring and traceability system, confirming that Egyptian produce meets the highest international safety and quality standards. This directly contributes to supporting the national economy and the inflow of foreign currency.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, in coordination with export councils and farmers, continues to provide technical and advisory support to ensure that crops are free of pesticide residues. It is also working to expand into the 21 new export markets opened this year to maintain these historic achievements for the Egyptian agricultural sector.
