Onion is the third most exported crop by Egypt following citrus and potato, respectively.
In a similar context, Egypt ranked third globally in 2019 in the exports of dried onion with a total of 13.6 tons.
Egypt's exports of onion have recorded 273,312 tons since the beginning of the year until July 8.
India comes first with exports amounting to 118 million dollars while the US comes second with 79-million-dollar exports.
The crop is still being exported in accordance with specifications set in response to the COVID-19 outbreak globally.
The ban came after the results of the analysis through the withdrawal of onion samples from Egypt, and proved to exceed pesticide residues at a rate higher than the limit allowed globally, for the purposes of public interest
