President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi launched Sunday the wheat harvest season, and inaugurated a potato processing factory at East Owainat in the New Valley.
The step comes as the agriculture sector receives great attention from the political leadership during the recent period.
This marks a 10% increase according to a report prepared by Ahmed Al-Attar, Head of the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine
During the meeting, the President was briefed on joint efforts by the various specialized authorities with regard to the horizontal and vertical expansion projects to increase the size and productivity of the agricultural area in Egypt.
Egypt has added one million feddan of agricultural lands over the past 8 years, and for the first time in the country's agricultural history, it has used on the contractual farming approach.
The development plan also aims to adopt appropriate plans to achieve the goals of local agricultural production growth, and provide the necessary water to increase the agricultural area, by directing investments amounting to (11) billion pounds distributed over a number of projects.
The total value of the Finance Ministry's initiative, approved by the cabinet in January, is LE 150 billion, the largest share of which (LE 140 billion) will be used to finance capital money, and the other LE 10 billion is dedicated to financing the purchase of capital goods.
President El-Sisi was briefed on efforts to develop the necessary infrastructure and provide machinery and equipment for modern irrigation methods, water plants and agricultural mechanization, Fahmy said.
Madbouli pointed out that the focus has been on three main axes: agriculture, land reclamation, industrial development and tourism development.

The official noted that the total size of potato exports throughout the year was 875,000 tons.
The expert highlighted that the poultry industry alone needs around 900,000 tons of feed per month.
The initiaitive is planned to be completed over seven years.
