CAIRO – 29 June 2020: Egypt’s defense minister congratulated the president on the anniversary of June 30 Revolution in 2013, hailing the “revolution of the great people of Egypt,” which was backed by the Armed Forces.

In a cable to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki said the revolution aimed at “correcting the path, rebuild the nation and affirm that Egypt is for all Egyptians and ……”

Zaki said the Armed Forces affirm, on this occasion, that they will always be “on the frontline to defend the homeland and secure its sanctities and territorial integrity,” in order for Egypt to remain a “security and safety shield for all Egyptians.”

June 30, 2013 marks the day when millions of Egyptians took to streets to protest against the rule of former President Mohamed Morsi, who was a leader for the Muslim Brotherhood group before he died in 2019 during a trial. Morsi was ousted by the Armed Forces few days later and the Muslim Brotherhood has been designated as terrorist.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli issued a decision Sunday considering Thursday as a full paid day off for governmental and private sectors’ workers in celebration of the revolution anniversary.

Madbouli said that any occasion that happens to take place in the middle of the week will be shifted to Thursday to enable citizens to have a longer weekend. The decision also applies to all municipal and public business sector employees.

The decision does not include the ongoing school and university exams as they will be held as scheduled on Thursday.
