Kuwait says power and water station attacked by Iran for second time in two days

CAIRO – 19 July 2026: Kuwait said on Sunday that a power generation and water desalination station came under Iranian attack for the second time in two days, as the US and Iran intensified military exchanges over the past week, shattering an interim ceasefire.

In a statement, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said the latest attack triggered a fire at some of the facility's installations, affecting a number of electricity generation units.

The ministry said emergency plans were immediately activated to contain the impact of the incident and maintain the stability of the country's power grid.

Firefighters were dispatched to the site and are working to extinguish the blaze, while technical teams are taking measures to ensure uninterrupted service, the ministry said.

Tehran struck Kuwaiti territory on Sunday in retaliation for US strikes on military targets across Iran for the eighth consecutive night.

US President Donald Trump has declared the ceasefire with Iran "over," while Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei reportedly vowed to teach Washington "unforgettable lessons" over repeated breaches of the deal.
