CAIRO – 3 June 2026: Egypt condemned the Iranian attacks on both Kuwait and Bahrain on Wednesday, calling them a “dangerous escalation” that endangers the Arab Gulf security and stability.
In separate statements, the Egyptian foreign ministry expressed solidarity with Kuwait and Bahrain in the face of the attacks, backing all measures taken by them to protect their people, safeguard their security and their vital infrastructure.
Cairo reiterated that the security and stability of Gulf Arab states are an integral part of the Egyptian and Arab national security, reaffirming rejection of any actions or practices that violate state sovereignty or threaten territorial integrity.
Deadly Attack on Kuwait Airport
A man was killed and 63 more were injured in Kuwait today, according to Kuwaiti authorities, after the army said Iranian drones and missiles hit “vital facilities” including Kuwait International Airport.
The injuries ranged from severe and multiple trauma cases, including fractures, head injuries, brain hemorrhages, limb amputations and blast-related wounds, as well as cases of smoke inhalation, according to the Kuwaiti health ministry.
The army added that the fatality is an Indian resident and reported severe damage at the airport’s terminal T1. The attack prompted a suspension of flights and diversion of air traffic, according to the country’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

Major Escalation amid War
Meanwhile, Bahrain reported intercepting and destroying three Iranian missiles and other drones.
The developments marked a significant escalation for Kuwait and Bahrain, which host major US military facilities and had largely been spared major Iranian attacks since a fragile US-Iran ceasefire took effect in April.
The attacks come after the US said it conducted “self-defense” strikes on an Iranian military ground control station on Qeshm Island, in response to “attempted attacks by Iran across the Middle East.”
Diplomatic Measures
In the wake of the attack, Kuwait summoned Iran’s chargé d’affaires on Wednesday to deliver a formal protest.
Kuwait also reduced the size of the Iranian diplomatic mission and declared two Iranian diplomats persona non grata, ordering them to leave the country within 24 hours.
Iranian Comments
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard (IRGC), meanwhile, said it had targeted the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and another location in the region, without naming Kuwait, describing the attacks as retaliation for a US strike on an oil tanker bound for Iran.
CENTCOM said it disabled an oil tanker flying the flag of Botswana en route to Iran’s Kharg Island after repeated non-compliance with naval instructions.
Iran's foreign ministry condemned US attacks on an Iranian oil tanker and a communications tower on Qeshm Island, and claimed that Kuwait and Bahrain bore “direct responsibility” for the overnight military actions, state news agency IRNA reported.
Ongoing War-End Talks
The attacks came as Washington and Tehran remained deadlocked in efforts to preserve a fragile ceasefire and reach a broader agreement to end the war started by US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
A current draft deal reportedly includes an Iranian commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons, alongside a 60-day timeframe to negotiate detailed nuclear restrictions and US sanctions relief.
US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that communication between Washington and Tehran is ongoing.
"Fake News Reports that the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the U.S.A., stopped speaking a few days ago are false and erroneous," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
"The conversations between us have been going on continuously, including four days ago, three days ago, two days ago, one day ago, and today.".
"Where they lead, one never knows, but as I told Iran, 'It's time, one way or another, for you to make a Deal. You've been doing this for 47 years, and it cannot be allowed to go on any longer!'"
