CAIRO – 6 May 2026: US President Donald Trump warned that military action against Iran could escalate to a “much higher level and intensity” if Tehran does not come to an agreement.
Meanwhile, he suggested that a deal would lead to reopening the Strait of Hormuz to all shipping.
In a post, Trump said that if Iran “agrees to give what has been agreed to,” the “already legendary Epic Fury” would come to an end and a “highly effective Blockade” would be lifted, allowing the Strait of Hormuz to be “open to all, including Iran.”
He added, however, that failure to comply would trigger renewed bombing, “at a much higher level and intensity than it was before.”
Trump did not specify the nature of the proposed agreement.
Trump on Wednesday announced suspending the newly launched US military operation “Project Freedom” aimed at guiding ships through the Strait of Hormuz, citing progress in talks with Iran.
He said the operation will be suspended “for a short period of time” to see “whether or not the Agreement can be finalized and signed” with Iran.
