CAIRO – 20 April 2026: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated on Monday that while Tehran has submitted a 10-point proposal to Pakistan, there are clear indications that the United States lacks the seriousness required to pursue a diplomatic track.

"We have never trusted the American side due to its long history of betraying diplomacy," Baghaei said. He attributed the current instability in the Strait of Hormuz to American and Israeli aggression, asserting that the strait was secure prior to recent attacks.

He called upon the international community to hold the U.S. and Israel accountable for endangering maritime security.

Baghaei emphasized that Iran remains prepared to respond forcefully to any further aggression and confirmed that there are currently no plans for a second round of negotiations with the United States.

He described American proposals as "unserious" and their demands as "unrealistic," accusing Washington of violating ceasefire terms.

Regarding the nuclear issue, Baghaei stated that removing the country’s nuclear stockpile has never been an option, reiterating Tehran's firm position on preserving its nuclear achievements within its borders.

"Tehran has clarified its demands and will not change them," he added. "We do not care about deadlines or ultimatums when it comes to protecting Iranian interests."

A senior Iranian source told Reuters that the ongoing U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is actively undermining peace talks. The source confirmed that significant disagreements over the nuclear program remain and asserted that Iran’s defense capabilities, including its missile program, are strictly non-negotiable.

In a separate statement on Monday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian noted that while "all rational and diplomatic means should be pursued to reduce tensions with Washington," he emphasized that Iran remains "vigilant and distrustful" in its dealings with the U.S. government.
