WASHINGTON - 15 April 2026: President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran could restart within days and potentially lead to an agreement, while US forces have intensified a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports.

Trump told ABC News the coming days could prove decisive, suggesting a deal may be within reach and downplaying the need to extend a ceasefire set to expire on April 21.

“I think you're going to be watching an amazing two days ahead,” Trump said.

“It could end either way, but I think a deal is preferable because then they can rebuild,” Trump said, according to a post by ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl on X.

At sea, US naval forces have blockaded Iranian ports, reportedly turning back multiple vessels attempting to leave Iranian ports, after the collapse of the first round of talks between the US and Iran in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.

The US military said it has intercepted several Iran-linked oil tankers since the blockade began earlier this week.

Iranian media reported that Tehran is seeking to reroute trade through alternative ports and expand import channels to mitigate the impact of the blockade.
