CAIRO – 28 March 2026: Parliament has affirmed Egypt’s “unconditional” support for Arab countries affected by Iranian strikes over the past month, while warning against military solutions to the regional escalation.
Iran has launched thousands of drone and missile attacks against Arab Gulf states hosting significant US military presence, in retaliation for the ongoing US-Israeli war since February 28.
Iran’s near-daily attacks on its Gulf neighbors have targeted military bases as well as energy facilities, civilian airports, hotels, and ports, killing and injuring US service members, in addition to civilians.
Parliament's two chambers strongly condemned Iran’s attacks on Arab Gulf states and Jordan, calling them a blatant violation of sovereignty, a direct threat to security and stability, and a serious breach of international law and good neighborly principles.
In a joint statement on Saturday, the House of Representatives and the Senate described the security of the Arab Gulf states and Jordan as integral to Egypt’s national security.
They warned that any harm to the sovereignty or stability of these countries constitutes a “direct infringement on Egypt’s supreme national interests.”
The statement stressed the need for “comprehensive regional arrangements” to strengthen the concept of collective Arab security and translate it into effective mechanisms to protect the sovereignty and resources of Arab states.
Such efforts, Parliament said, would “block any attempts at hegemony or unilateral management of the region’s affairs through the logic of force and dominance.”
Political Over Military Solutions
The statement also reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to political and diplomatic solutions to avoid further escalation and the “catastrophic consequences” of open confrontation for the region’s peoples.
“The two chambers reaffirm that Egypt, despite the clarity and firmness of its position, remains committed to political and diplomatic solutions,” the statement read.
This is “the optimal path to spare the region further escalation and a slide into open confrontations that would have nothing but catastrophic consequences for its peoples and stability.”
Parliament added that “military solutions, no matter how decisive they may appear, ultimately lead to prolonged cycles of violence and bloodshed.”
It emphasized that dialogue and adherence to international law remain the only path to achieving lasting security and stability.
