CAIRO – 26 March 2026: Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Beirut on Thursday, conveying a message of support and solidarity from the Egyptian political leadership and people.
Minister Abdelatty and President Aoun discussed regional developments in light of the ongoing instability plaguing the region. The Foreign Minister began the meeting by conveying the sincere greetings and appreciation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, emphasizing the Egyptian leadership's directives to provide all forms of urgent support to Lebanon.
He noted that the dispatch of an emergency relief shipment—weighing approximately 1,000 tons—was a direct implementation of President El-Sisi's directives. The aid serves as a practical message of support to alleviate human suffering and underscores Egypt's firm commitment to Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity at this critical juncture.
For his part, the Lebanese President expressed his deep gratitude to President El-Sisi for Egypt's historic and honorable stances. He commended Egypt's swift response in providing relief to displaced persons and meeting their humanitarian needs, stating that such support embodies the depth of fraternal ties and reflects Egypt's pivotal role as a cornerstone of regional security and stability.
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Abdelatty affirmed during the talks that this visit—his fifth to Beirut in less than two years—clearly demonstrates the extent of Egypt's engagement and the importance it attaches to supporting Lebanon.
In this regard, Abdelatty praised the tireless efforts of Lebanese state institutions to provide shelter and care for those affected. He expressed Egypt's absolute confidence in the resilience of the Lebanese people to overcome this difficult period, as well as in the state's capacity to continue supporting all its citizens.
The meeting addressed the latest developments on the ground, with Minister Abdelatty emphasizing Egypt's condemnation and categorical rejection of Israeli military aggression, specifically the systematic airstrikes, ground incursions into southern Lebanon, and the targeting of UNIFIL headquarters. He described these actions as flagrant violations of Lebanese sovereignty and international law.
He further expressed complete rejection of policies of collective punishment, including the destruction of infrastructure and bridges, and evacuation orders that have led to the displacement of more than one million people. He warned against exploiting the humanitarian crisis as a tool for political or military pressure.
The official spokesperson added that the Foreign Minister reiterated the necessity of full compliance with Security Council Resolution 1701 in its entirety and without selectivity. He expressed Egypt's unwavering support for Lebanese state institutions—foremost among them the Lebanese Army—to extend sovereignty over all Lebanese territory and ensure that weapons remain solely in the hands of the state.
In this context, the Foreign Minister welcomed the negotiating initiative announced by President Aoun, affirming that it contains important elements that should be built upon to reach a political settlement.

The spokesman concluded by noting that the Foreign Minister stressed the continuation of Egyptian diplomatic efforts with regional and international parties to reduce escalation and prevent the region from sliding into total chaos. He called on the international community to intervene immediately to deter unchecked military practices in Lebanon.
