CAIRO – 25 February 2026: Egypt and Qatar have stressed the urgent need to de-escalate rising tensions in the Middle East and to pursue diplomatic and political solutions.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty and Minister of State at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi urged intensified Arab action to help restore regional security and stability.
The ministers affirmed the importance of prioritizing political and diplomatic tracks to address various crises.
They made the remarks during a meeting in Cairo on Tuesday on the sidelines of the preparatory meeting for the International Conference in Support of the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Internal Security Forces.
Backing the Lebanese State
The ministers discussed unifying international efforts to support Lebanese state institutions.
Abdelatty commended the existing cooperation within the framework of the five-member committee on Lebanon, which comprises Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, France, and the United States.
He reaffirmed the commitment to supporting the Lebanese army, enabling it to extend its sovereignty over all Lebanese territory, while simultaneously intensifying pressure to halt Israeli violations and implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Sudan Truce
The meeting also addressed developments in Sudan.
The ministers emphasized the need to intensify efforts to reach a humanitarian truce that would pave the way for a ceasefire and ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.
They stressed the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, and the cohesion of its national institutions.
