CAIRO – 18 February 2026: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly departed Cairo for Washington to participate in the first meeting of the newly-formed Gaza “Board of Peace (BoP)” on Thursday on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The board was established by US President Donald Trump in January as an international organization aimed at formulating sustainable solutions to regional and international conflicts, particularly the Palestinian cause.
The prime minister is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty.
The Egyptian Cabinet underscored Cairo’s longstanding and pivotal role in supporting regional stability and advancing comprehensive and just peace efforts.
It also reaffirmed in a statement Egypt’s support for Trump’s position rejecting the displacement of the Palestinian people from Gaza, as well as his opposition to the annexation of the West Bank.
“These positions were clearly reflected in the 20-point plan to end the conflict, aligning with Egypt’s firm and consistent stance,” the statement said.
During the visit, the prime minister is scheduled to deliver Egypt’s address before the board, outlining the country’s vision regarding the issues under discussion.
The BoP was established under the second phase of Trump’s Gaza peace plan, which was launched by the US in January and is endorsed by a United Nations Security Council resolution.
The board oversees a committee of Palestinian technocrats, who are responsible for managing daily affairs in Gaza.
Trump originally presented the BoP as an initiative centered on Gaza, before later indicating it could operate alongside the United Nations as a broader mechanism for conflict resolution.
The first formal BoP meeting is set to include delegations from at least 20 countries, many represented by heads of state, Reuters reported.
Trump is expected to unveil a major multi‑billion‑dollar funding package for Gaza’s reconstruction and a UN‑authorized international stabilization force (ISF), a central element of the second phase of his Gaza strategy.
