BAMAKO – 9 January 2026: The Egyptian Embassy in Mali has successfully secured the return of two Egyptian nationals who had been stranded in the town of Kéniéba, located about 350 kilometers from the capital.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement late on Friday that the embassy coordinated closely with Malian authorities and the Malian Air Force command to facilitate the safe return of the two citizens.
The ministry renewed its call on all Egyptian nationals residing in or present in Mali to strictly adhere to local laws and instructions and carry valid identification documents at all times.
The ministry also urged them to exercise the utmost caution and avoid travel or movement outside the capital, Bamako, or between other cities and regions at the present time to ensure their safety.
Late in November, Egypt announced the release of three citizens who had been kidnapped in Mali after intensive coordination with the Malian government.
Al-Qaeda-linked group "Jama’at Nusrat Al-Islam wal Muslimeen," earlier claimed responsibility for the abduction of three Egyptians.
