CAIRO – 1 January 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Thursday sent a cable of greetings to Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on the occasion of Sudan’s Independence Day.
El-Sisi also delegated Presidential Chamberlain Hossam Zaatar to the Sudanese embassy in Cairo to convey his greetings, Egyptian state's news agency MENA reported.
Sudan marks its Independence Day annually on 1 January, commemorating its declaration of sovereignty in 1956.
On the 70th anniversary of Sudan’s independence, celebrated on Thursday, Al-Burhan expressed confidence in victory in the ongoing war with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in April 2023.
“We reassure our people everywhere that victory is coming, that victory stands with the Sudanese people, and that all those who have betrayed and sold their homeland will not prevail,” he said in a speech marking the occasion.
