CAIRO – 7 December 2025: Egypt’s foreign minister reaffirmed his country’s firm rejection of any Israeli attacks on Syrian territory and cautioned against exploiting current circumstances to justify interventions that could undermine Syria’s sovereignty.
Minister Badr Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani on the sidelines of the Doha Forum.
During the talks, Abdelatty underlined Egypt’s unwavering stance on maintaining Syria’s unity and territorial integrity and supporting state institutions to perform their duties in maintaining stability and safeguarding people’s rights and resources.
The Egyptian FM stressed the critical importance of ensuring sustainable security and stability for all components of the Syrian population, across all ethnic and religious groups.
He highlighted the need to continue efforts to combat terrorism and extremism as a key factor in restoring peace and stability in Syria and the wider region.
He emphasized that Egypt continues to engage regional and international partners to emphasize respect for Syrian sovereignty and the rejection of any actions that threaten the country’s security or territorial integrity.
Since the fall of then-President of Syria Bashar Al-Assad last year, Israeli forces stormed and occupied the UN-patrolled buffer zone in the occupied Golan Heights and have carried out regular incursions deeper into Syria.
Syria’s President Ahmed Al-Sharaa told the Doha Forum on Saturday that Israel is “fighting ghosts” and exporting its crises, as airstrikes and cross-border operations persist in the south.
He said Damascus continues to uphold the 1974 disengagement agreement, which had held for over 50 years, warning that attempts to alter it or pursue new arrangements such as a demilitarised zone “could lead us to a serios and perilous place.”
